Woodgate Bears by Sue Whittaker

I am originally from Manchester and much travelled around the U.K. I arrived in East Sussex in 1999.

I have always been interested in craftwork since learning to knit and sew at school. I started making toys in all fabrics, many years ago, for my three children.

My first big project was porcelain dolls, which I made at evening school. These were painted and dressed by me in various fabrics. My first doll, a reproduction A Marque, was made in September 1993.

The next project was when I bought my first Dolls House, in 1996, which I refurbished and decorated including electric lighting. I even tried my hand at making furniture. I then purchased a Tudor Cottage, which I have furnished.

I turned to Teddy Bears in 1998 when I bought my first Steiff Bear in San Diego, California, and subsequently, I started making my own in Mohair and Alpaca.

All my bears are hand made in Mohair, Alpaca, faux fur or synthetic fabric, with suedette or suede paws, glass eyes and nut and bolt joints.  They are stuffed with either fibre fill, wood wool, plastic pellets or a combination.

All Bears are priced individually according to size and the material used.  Growlers or Musical Movement can be used if needed.

Photographs are reproduced as near to colour as possible.

Muir

Muir measures 13" and is made from caramel coloured dense mohair.  He has black glass eyes, suede paws, nut and bolt joints and is stuffed with fibre fill.  He has a tartan ribbon around his neck.

Name your own Bears and Rabbits

All bears and rabbits measure approx.. 9 1/2 “ and are made from short pile mohair.  They have glass eyes, nut and bolt joints and are stuffed with fibre fill.  The rabbits have cotton inserts to their ears and feet and ribbons around their ears or neck.  Bears have suede or cotton paws and ribbons around their necks.  Rabbits have slightly bent legs to enable them to sit on the edge of a shelf.  As they are very popular, the  picture shown is for information only.

Mae

Mae is an 11" rabbit, made from 10mm white alpaca.  She has pink and white inner ears, charcoal glass eyes, pink suede foot pads, nut and bolt joints and is stuffed with fibre fill.  She has slightly bent legs which enables her to sit on the edge of a shelf and a bright pink ribbon around her head.

Chester

Chester measures 14" and is made from black 17mm dense mohair with 17mm gold coloured dense mohair inserts to his muzzle and chest.  He has black glass eyes, suede paw pads, nut and bolt joints and is stuffed with fibre fill.
